Coastal Pines Technical College Breaks Ground on New Health Science Building at Jesup Campus

JESUP, Ga. — Coastal Pines Technical College celebrated a significant milestone in expanding healthcare education in Southeast Georgia with the groundbreaking of its new Health Science Building on the Jesup Campus on Thursday, July 16, 2026.

The new 30,300-square-foot facility represents a nearly $20 million investment in the future healthcare workforce of Southeast Georgia and is expected to be completed in summer 2027. The project is being constructed by Allstate Construction and designed by Cogdell Mendrala Architects.

Once completed, the building will house the College's Associate of Science in Nursing, Practical Nursing, Nurse Aide, and Paramedicine programs. The facility will include state-of-the-art nursing labs designed to simulate modern hospital environments, specialized instructional labs for each healthcare program, a science/biology laboratory, and additional general education classrooms.

The project comes as Coastal Pines continues to experience tremendous growth on its Jesup Campus. Much of that growth has been driven by the expansion of healthcare programs, including the Associate of Science in Nursing program. Annual enrollment on the Jesup campus has doubled since 2018 from 952 students to 1,972 today.

The existing nursing classrooms have reached capacity, with three traditional classrooms converted into temporary nursing instructional space. The new Health Science Building will provide students with a true simulated hospital learning environment while allowing the College to return existing classrooms to general academic use, creating space for continued growth across the campus.

"The demand for skilled healthcare professionals continues to grow across our region, and Coastal Pines Technical College is committed to meeting that need," said President Lonnie Roberts. "This new Health Science Building represents an investment not only in our students, but in the future health of the communities we serve. As our Jesup Campus continues to grow, this facility will allow us to educate more healthcare professionals with the hands-on training they need to succeed while strengthening the workforce throughout Southeast Georgia."

The expanded facility also positions the Jesup Campus for continued growth beyond healthcare. Once the health sciences programs relocate into the new building, current nursing classrooms will be renovated to support new or expanded instructional offerings.

Governor Brian Kemp's Georgia Healthcare Workforce Commission identified expanding educational capacity as a critical component in addressing Georgia's healthcare workforce shortage. The new Health Science Building directly supports that mission by increasing training capacity for high-demand healthcare careers.
