For Jayden Jones, the journey to a career in healthcare began before she even graduated from high school. Through early planning, determination, and a commitment to her goals, she made the most of the opportunities available at Coastal Pines Technical College and is now preparing to begin the next chapter of her career in surgical technology.
Jayden began her journey at Coastal Pines Technical College as a high school junior through the Dual Enrollment program. Recognizing the value of getting a head start on her education, she took advantage of available courses that aligned with her future healthcare goals and earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license before graduating from high school in 2024.
After learning about the Surgical Technology program from a friend, Jayden began researching the field and discovered a career path that interested her. By completing core courses and prerequisites early, she positioned herself to enter the program and continue working toward her goal of a career in healthcare.
For Jayden, CPTC offered several important advantages. She could remain close to family and friends while earning a valuable credential, reduce the financial burden of higher education, and work toward her career goals in less time than she might have spent pursuing a traditional four-year degree.
Although Jayden's educational journey has been rewarding, it has not always been easy. Like many students, she experienced moments when balancing life's responsibilities with school made continuing her education feel overwhelming.
“My journey has taught me to manage my responsibilities better and to keep going even when you really don't want to or feel like you just can't,” Jayden shared.
Her experience taught her the importance of perseverance, managing responsibilities, and continuing to work toward a goal even when the path becomes challenging.
As she prepares to graduate from CPTC, Jayden is looking forward to entering the workforce and gaining hands-on experience in the operating room. She plans to continue building her knowledge and skills as she begins her career in surgical technology.
For Jayden, earning her credential represents much more than completing a program. It reflects the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices that brought her to this point—and marks an important step toward a future in healthcare.
When asked what advice she would give herself on her first day at CPTC, Jayden offered a reminder that carried her through the difficult moments of her journey:
“It's okay to make mistakes and get discouraged, but to stay firm in your faith and trust that no matter what happens, the Lord will get you through it.”
Jayden's story highlights how early planning, career-focused education, and perseverance can help students turn their goals into reality. By taking advantage of Dual Enrollment and continuing her education at Coastal Pines, she built a foundation for her future while keeping her personal and professional goals in sight. Coastal Pines Technical College is proud of Jayden's accomplishments and looks forward to seeing the difference she makes in the healthcare field.
