912 Sports will name a Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week each week during the 2019 high school football season. The winner of the week 12 award is Chuckobe Hill, a Brunswick High School sophomore running back.
Brunswick has had several good running backs through years, and the Pirates now have a young one who has emerged as a star this season. Sophomore, Chuckobe Hill played a big role in Brunswick’s 34-13 victory Friday at Morrow in the first round of the Class AAAAAA state playoffs. Hill scored three times in the fourth quarter for the Pirates as they broke open a tight game and pulled away for their first postseason victory in nine years.
Hill finished the night with 22 carries for 89 yards while also catching five passes for 98 yards. For his outstanding performance in the clutch for the Pirates, Hill has been named the Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week for the 912 Sports coverage area.
“His yards after contact were huge,” said Brunswick head coach Sean Pender. “He spun out of tackles or put his hand on the ground and kept going. He turned 3- and 4-yard runs into 10- and 12-yard runs. He also turned some short passes into big-yardage plays. He ran well, also blocked well and did a good job catching the ball. He had a tremendous night.”
In Friday’s game, Hill went over the 1,000-yard mark running the ball. For the season, he has now gained 1,058 yards on the ground with 10 touchdowns on 177 carries. He is averaging 5.98 yards per attempt and is averaging just over 96 yards per game. As a pass-catcher, Hill has 26 receptions for 360 yards and three scores. He averages almost 14 yards per catch.
“He’s had a great season,” Pender said. “He’s a good kid, real unselfish kid. He prides himself in doing everything right. He rarely makes mistakes, but he owns them when he does. He’s tough as nails also. He brings positive energy to our team every day, just plays with unbridled enthusiasm.”
Hill will be back in action this Friday when the Pirates travel to Kennesaw to take on second-ranked Harrison in round two.
