Week Four Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week Announced

September 30, 2019 09:24 AM

Story by: Kevin Price

Each week of the 2019 high school football season, 912 Sports will name a Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week each week during the 2019 high school football season. The week four winner is Dionte Bowens, a senior quarterback at Liberty County High School.

The Liberty County Panthers have only played two games so far in the 2019 football season, so their quarterback Dionte Bowens might not have the overall numbers that other area quarterbacks have posted in the early weeks of the season.

But the senior quarterback’s performance this past Friday night in a 54-0 victory for the Panthers at Cross Creek was as good as any individual showing this season by an area signal-caller. Bowens was 11-for-16 passing for 220 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing four times for 40 yards in only two quarters of action, according to Liberty County head coach Kirk Warner. For his outstanding effort, Bowens has been named the Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week.

“He took a step up last Friday,” Warner said of Bowens. “He displayed impeccable pocket presence and leadership skills. If he shows that consistently throughout the year, we will have a successful season.” The Panthers are 2-0 on the season. They knocked off Bradwell Institute 42-10 at home on Aug. 30 to open the season. Bowens passed for 133 yards and a score in that game as he only attempted six passes on the night. He also ran eight times for 49 yards and another touchdown in the victory over the rival Tigers. Liberty County’s home game against Statesboro on Sept. 6 was cancelled by Hurricane Dorian and the team’s game the following week at Evans in Augusta was cancelled by severe weather.

The Panthers are scheduled to play Richmond Hill at home this Friday. Bowens is also a member of the Liberty County basketball team.
