On Monday, November 20, 2018, the Coastal Pines Technical College Surgical Technology cohort took a trunk load of canned goods and nonperishable food items to the office of Action Pact, formerly Concerted Services. AllaMae Hickox, Program Director, and her students decided to initiate a food drive in partnership with The Surgical Services Department at Memorial Satilla Health to promote awareness about the profession and the program at Coastal Pines. They began collecting during their yearly National Surgical Technology Week, September 16-22nd and delivered their items to the food bank just in time for Thanksgiving.
Action Pact announced that they were officially changing their agency name from Concerted Services, Inc. to Action Pact effective November 1, 2018. The new name reflects both their history as a community action agency and the partnerships they will continue to build within the communities we serve. Coastal Pines Technical College understands the importance for community partnerships and took the opportunity to serve alongside the folks at Action Pact to give back! For more information on Action Pact, visit www.actionpact.org.
Today, surgical technologists are working in one of the fastest growing professions in the country. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that the surgical technology profession will grow faster than the average of all other occupations through the year 2020, and it is anticipated that the volume of surgery will increase exponentially due to the expanding senior population.
