Each week of the high school football season, there are hundreds of talented young men who work hard to prepare, play hard, and leave everything on the field. 912 Sports will name a Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week each week during the 2019 high school football season.

The week zero Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week is Pierce County Quarterback, Jermaine Brewton.Jermaine Brewton played a big role in Pierce County’s run to the Class AAA state semifinals last year. On Friday night, the junior quarterback for the Bears delivered a big performance to help Ryan Herring win his first game as the Pierce County head coach and Brewton’s showing makes him the first Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week in the 2019 season.

“Jermaine has done a great job of leading our offense since I’ve been here,” said Pierce head coach Ryan Herring, a former assistant for the Bears who returned this season to take over the vacant head coaching position in the program. “He’s a high-character young man. That’s the type of player you want at quarterback.”

While leading the Bears to a 49-7 victory over McIntosh County Academy at home in Blackshear, the 6-foot-2, 165-pound junior made plays with both his throwing arm and legs in the season opener. Brewton was 8-for-11 passing for 162 yards and two touchdowns while running 10 times for another 52 yards and  two scores. Brewton scored the first touchdown of the season for the Bears on a 2-yard run on their second drive of the game. After halftime, he accounted for three more scores with all of them taking place in the third quarter. Brewton threw a 15-yard TD pass to Quavien Bell to make it 28-7 early in period before also hooking up with DJ Bell for a 45-yard scoring strike. Brewton then ran 7 yards for his final score of the night late in the quarter.

“He is a dual-threat quarterback, so he will be a preparation nightmare for teams this year,” Herring said. Last season, Brewton passed for 1,914 yards and 21 TDs in 14 games while rushing for 211 yards and a touchdown. As a freshman, he threw for 1,027 yards and nine touchdowns in 10 games and ran for another 64 and three scores.

Congratulations and a job well done to Jermaine Brewton for being the Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week, awarded by 912 Sports.
