OTC Southeast Area Landscape & Turf Conference is Success
SALT Benefits Area Landscape & Horticulture Professionals
The 5th annual Southeast Area Landscape & Turf Conference (SALT) was held February 6, 2014, at Okefenokee Technical College (OTC). The event featured horticulture, landscape, and turf experts who shared the latest information on pesticide regulations, turf management, and landscape solutions.
Andy Brannen, OTC Vice President for Economic Development, welcomed speakers and participants to the OTC Waycross Campus and to the event.
Partners for this year’s event included the Okefenokee Technical College Horticulture Club, Georgia Department of Revenue, the University of Florida IFAS Extension (Duval County), the University of Georgia College of Agriculture & Environmental Sciences, and the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension.
The highly successful, educational training program was sponsored by the OTC Economic Development Division of the Technical College System of Georgia, Briggs & Stratton Corporation, Dan Vaden of Brunswick, FIS Outdoor, Nimmer Turf and Tree Farm, Inc. and Phillips Turf and Ornamental.
Laura Timm, vice president of corporate communications and public affairs for Briggs & Stratton Corporation, kicked off the day with a presentation on the impact that ethanol fuels have on lawn and turf equipment. Ms. Timm traveled from the Briggs & Stratton corporate office located in Madison, Wisconsin.
A second keynote speaker was Todd Fonda, who is the Landscape Superintendent for TPC Sawgrass located in Ponte Vedra, Florida. Mr. Fonda discussed some of the challenges associated with managing a premier resort golf course.
