The Okefenokee Technical College Board of Directors was recognized by the Technical College Directors’ Association (TCDA) at the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) 2013 Leadership Conference in Savannah last month for achieving 100% Board Certification.
Each director of the Board must be certified individually. The newest members of the Board, Lee Gowen and Toni Nelson, were recognized as meeting the criteria for certification at the conference, enabling the entire Board to be recognized. Gowen and Nelson became OTC board directors July 1, 2012.
The TCDA’s purpose is to build the capability of the local boards of directors to effectively increase the real and perceived value of technical and adult education in Georgia. The organization was formed in 1990 as an educational non-profit organization and supports the technical colleges in having board members who are “work-ready.”
Keith Johnson, M.D. and Toni Nelson represented the OTC Board at the leadership conference. “We appreciate their support and extra efforts to promote OTC internally through Technical College System and the Director’s Association, as well as throughout the region,” stated Deibert. “Congratulations to the entire OTC Board of Directors for this accomplishment.”
The OTC Board of Directors is composed of eight individuals representing the college’s designated six-county service area. At least one person from each county is represented on the Board. The OTC Board of Directors for 2013-2014 are Phillip Cook (chair), Clinch; Jack Johnson, Bacon; Dr. Greg Jacobs, Brantley; Lee Gowen, Charlton; Daniel Johnson, Pierce; Keith Johnson, M.D., Ware; and Toni Nelson, Ware. The Board meets monthly.
