New Scholarships to cover GED Test Costs
New TCSG Foundation scholarships will help Georgians cover GED test costs
(April 2, 2013) – Two new scholarships from the Technical College System of Georgia Foundation should help ease some of the financial strain Georgians face when attempting to earn their GED.
The new 2013 GED Scholarships are a $65 AT&T Scholarship and a $32 Final Test Fee Scholarship. The cost of the GED rose from $95 to $160 last year after implementing a new computer-based test. In addition to the cost increase, a new GED test will be unveiled in 2014, and those students who have not completed all subject areas in the GED test battery will be required to start over in the test-taking process.
“Now is the time to take the GED test and complete all of the test sections,” said Sandra Williams, dean of adult education at Altamaha Technical College. “You need to finish the test now so you won’t have to re-take the parts you’ve already passed.”
Williams encourages students to take advantage of these scholarships as well as other GED scholarships from Altamaha Technical College Foundation. The current version of the GED test expires at the end of 2013.
The TCSG Foundation AT&T Scholarship requires that recipients must take the computer-based GED test. Potential GED test-takers must also spend a minimum of 40 hours in a state funded adult education program; complete a TABE or GAIN pre- and post-test; and, score a minimum overall average standard score of 500 on the Official Practice Test and no lower than 450 on any subtest.
The TCSG Foundation Final GED Testing Fee Scholarship is for Georgia residents who require one subject-area test to complete the GED test who will take the computer-based GED test. GED test-takers must have an average standard score of 460 or higher; complete a TABE pre- and post-test; complete an instructional plan created by the adult education program; and, obtain a minimum score of 500 on the Official GED Practice Test for the subject-area test required to complete the GED test.
The scholarships from TSCG Foundation may be individually awarded but not combined.
