Morgan & Bennett Nominated for OTC EAGLE Award
Congratulations to Cynthia Morgan (left) and Virginia Bennett (right), nominees from the Brantley County adult education program for the Okefenokee Technical College (OTC) Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) award. Morgan and Bennett were nominated for the award by their instructor, Sheryl Trammel.
“It’s quite an honor to be selected by your instructor as an EAGLE nominee,” stated Dr. Steve Pearce, OTC executive director for adult education. “Selection criteria include student character, attitude, attendance, leadership and community involvement and activities.”
The selection process involves nominees giving a three- to five- minute speech followed by an interview. The Brantley County EAGLE representative will be selected by a panel of community leaders and will advance to the next level of the local competition where he or she will compete against other local winners, one from each of the other counties in OTC’s service area: Bacon Charlton, Clinch, Pierce, and Ware. The student selected at this level represents Okefenokee Technical College at the EAGLE Leadership Institute in Atlanta.
The Technical College System of Georgia Office of Adult Education sponsors the EAGLE program, which celebrates adult learners in pursuit of excellence. The program is recognized as the first statewide program in the nation to honor outstanding adult education students.
