The ability of a student to succeed in a program at Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) is greatly determined by the math and language skills possessed by that student. It is the philosophy of CPTC that a student is not helped by admitting him or her to a program in which he or she does not possess the basic educational skills needed to succeed. The assessment provides CPTC the opportunity to better serve the students through quality placement. The official placement exams approved for use by CPTC and approved by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) is the ACCUPLACER. However, in the place of ACCUPLACER, CPTC may accept a student’s official entrance score on any TCSG validated assessment instrument. These placement exams evaluate reading, writing, math and algebra skills.
