Kathy Durrance (left) of Blackshear was the winner of the novelty deer mailbox on display at the Okefenokee Agricultural Fair in November. Okefenokee Technical College (OTC) welding instructors Doug Furman (right) and Ryan Deal (center) presented Durrance with the prize. Students in the OTC welding program fabricated the mailbox for the event.
Durrance, who is currently enrolled at OTC, was one of many at the fair who registered for the mailbox at OTC’s booth.
OTC instructors demonstrated various interactive models as part of the overall college display. Fairgoers who stopped by the booth to inquire about programs were encouraged to test their welding skills using the virtual welding machine or drive a “big rig” using the truck driving simulator. Those interested in the healthcare field were urged to provide respiratory care to a human model or learn about radiology. Several other OTC programs were featured at the booth, as well, including electrical lineworker, automotive collision repair, and electronics.
