Fort Valley State University (FVSU) recently signed an articulation agreement that will make the transfer of graduates from Coastal Pines Technical College’s (CPTC) Associate of Applied Science in Education program to FVSU a seamless process.

FVSU and CPTC administrators signed the agreement during an on-campus ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, that was attended by administrators and faculty from both institutions of higher learning.

Under the agreement, CPTC graduates will be able to transfer credits from their two-year associate’s degree program to FVSU to complete a Bachelor of Science in Elementary or Middle Grades Education.

FVSU Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs T. Ramon Stuart said the agreement demonstrates the ongoing commitment both institutions have to ensure students are well supported as they continue to pursue their educational careers.

“Fort Valley State University is being forward-thinking in establishing meaningful partnerships that provide opportunities for students to continue their educational journeys and to receive their bachelor’s degree,” Stuart said. “We’re proud to be partners with Coastal Pines Technical College in doing that.”

Amanda Morris, CPTC Vice President for Academic Affairs, agreed, adding the partnership with FVSU was an opportunity to address the ongoing teacher shortage in rural South Georgia.

“In the technical college system, one of the major parts of our mission is workforce development. We do understand that there are some areas that the students need to continue education in order to be a vital part of the workforce, with education being one of those areas. We have a shortage of teachers in rural South Georgia so we are working to help with that shortage. We feel like partnering with Fort Valley State is a great way to partner and help those students fulfill their dream of being a teacher.”
