Dr. Glenn Deibert Appointed President

Atlanta – The state board that oversees the Technical College System of Georgia has unanimously approved Commissioner Ron Jackson’s recommendation of Dr. Glenn A. Deibert, Jr., to be the next president of Okefenokee Technical College (OTC) in Waycross.

The board endorsed Jackson’s selection of Deibert as the next OTC president during their monthly meeting in Atlanta on November 1.
Deibert has been serving as the interim president of OTC since last March, after Dr. Gail Thaxton left to accept the job of president of North Georgia Technical College in Clarkesville.

“I know and trust Dr. Deibert, and I’m very pleased to make this appointment,” said Jackson.  “He’s proven himself to be an effective administrator who’s highly supportive of his faculty, staff and, most of all, his students. He’ll provide steady leadership for Okefenokee Technical College and deliver on its mission to provide the skilled workforce that the area businesses and industries need to profit and grow in today’s competitive economy.”

Deibert told the board that he was honored to be Jackson’s selection. “I’m very fortunate to have received this great opportunity to lead Okefenokee Technical College. I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside the college’s outstanding faculty and staff for the last several months, and we’ll continue to work together to deliver the very best in technical and adult education programs for southeast Georgia,” said Deibert.

Deibert was the president of Southwest Georgia Technical College in Thomasville from 2006 to 2010. For three years before that, he served as president of Swainsboro Technical College (which was later merged with Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia).

More recently, he was the executive vice chancellor of Alabama Community College System, a position that he held from 2010 until he left last spring to accept the interim president position at OTC.

Earlier in his career, Deibert was vice president of instructional services at Southwest Georgia Technical College from 2001 to 2003. He was also that college’s director of curriculum and staff development. He began his career as a drafting instructor at Central Georgia Technical College in Macon.
Deibert obtained his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in 2002, and has Master of Education and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Georgia.
