CPTC Has Significant Enrollment Increase

Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) is experiencing unprecedented enrollment growth. The College had the highest percentage of enrollment increase in the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) last semester and again this semester.
Currently, CPTC has 2,928 students enrolled for spring semester, a 27.69% increase over last spring’s enrollment of 2,293 students. Fall 2016 records show 2,778 students enrolled at Coastal Pines or 13.76% more students enrolled compared to fall 2015 when CPTC enrolled 2,442 students.
Although half of the institutions in the TCSG saw an increase in enrollment both semesters, not one college, except Coastal Pines, saw a double digit increase. CPTC President Dr. Glenn Deibert attributes the significant increase to the faculty and staff.
“Student recruitment, retention and engagement is something our entire campus community is promoting,” said Dr. Deibert, “and we could not have achieved these record milestones without the commitment and tireless efforts of our faculty and staff.”
The “Move on When Ready” (MOWR) program is also a major factor in the College’s enrollment growth, noted Deibert. Current MOWR enrollment is 1374, a 92.7% increase over last spring’s 713. MOWR allows high school students to earn college credit while earning a high school diploma. All costs, including tuition, fees and books, are paid by the program, which means there is no cost to students or parents. Once approved for the program, students enroll in general education or technical education courses.
According to Dr. Deibert, “Parents are recognizing the benefits of the Move On When Ready program. When parents discover their child can earn up to two years of college credit by the time he or she graduates from high school - free of charge, they find the program quite appealing and are usually motivated to get their teenager enrolled.”
To accommodate the rapid growth, CPTC officials have added classes and instructors. Additional faculty and staff will be added, as needed, stated Deibert.
