CPTC Automotive Program Receives National Recertification

May 17, 2016 05:55 PM

autoprogramrecertifiedCoastal Pines Technical College President Dr. Glenn Deibert, proudly announces that the CPTC automotive technology program, directed by Mr. Larry Carr, has received recertification by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF).

According to CPTC Academic Dean Amanda Morris, the auto tech program is recertified in all eight ASE review areas: (1) automatic transmission & transaxle, (2) brakes, (3) electrical/electronic systems, (4) engine repair, (5) engine performance, (6) heating and air conditioning, (7) manual drive train & axles, and (8) suspension and steering. To achieve this coveted recognition, the CPTC automotive training program underwent rigorous evaluation by the NATEF. Nationally accepted standards of excellence in areas such as instruction, facilities, and equipment were used.

The primary goal of certification is program improvement. The evaluation process involves two major steps: an extensive self-evaluation followed by an on-site evaluation. Programs must recertify every five years. The CPTC automotive technology program has maintained its ASE certification for more than 25 years.

Dr. Deibert and Ms. Morris credit Carr for this notable accomplishment, citing his technical expertise, dedication to students, and commitment to quality. “His diligent work to maintain excellent program standards and records facilitated a successful NATEF audit,” stated Morris.

“This is great news,” stated Donald Seyfer, former NATEF Chair. “Because this program increases cooperation between local education and industry leaders, it gives added assurance that graduates of Coastal Pines Technical College will be employable entry-level technicians. As a result of the quality education provided by CPTC, the motoring public will benefit since better repair technicians will join the workforce.”

Upon completion of the evaluation, NATEF representatives recommended that Coastal Pines Technical College be recertified. The notification letter came shortly thereafter bearing the great news.

“During the past few months,” stated Carr, “we have worked closely with NATEF to ensure that our program would continue to meet strict industry standards. Students can be assured of a quality education, and shop owners will be assured of getting quality job applicants.”
