CERTIFIED MEDICAL BILLING & CODING SPECIALIST
male_black_nurse_with_female_nurse_on_computerThis course offers the skills needed to solve insurance billing problems, how to manually file claims (using the CPT and ICD-9 manual), complete common insurance forms, trace delinquent claims, appeal denied claims and use generic forms to streamline billing procedures. The course covers the following areas: CPT (Introduction, Guidelines, Evaluation and Management), specialty fields (such as surgery, radiology and laboratory), ICD-10 (Introduction and Guidelines) and basic claims processes for medical insurance and third party reimbursements. Students will learn how to find the service and codes using manuals. Student loans are available.
 
*Upon successful completion of this program, students may be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) national examination and/or the American Health Information Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Associate (CCA) exam.

CERTIFIED PHARMACY TECHNICIAN
This course prepares students to work as a pharmacy technician in a retail or other pharmacy setting and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Course content includes: pharmacy medical terminology, the history of pharmacy, the pharmacy practice in multiple environments, pharmacy calculations and measurements, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Through classroom lecture and hands on labs, students will review dosage calculations, drug classifications, the “top 200 drugs”, I.V. flow rates, sterile compounding, dose conversions, aseptic technique, the handling of sterile products, total parenteral nutrition (TPN), dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. Student loans are available.
 
*Upon successful completion of this program, students may be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) national examination and/or the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) toward becoming a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

DENTAL ASSISTING
dentistThis course prepares students for entry level positions in one of the fastest growing health care positions – Dental Assisting. The purpose of this course is to familiarize the student with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in the dental practice.
This course covers the following key areas and topics –
  • Administrative Aspects include: the history of dentistry and dental assisting; introduction to the dental office; the legal aspects of dentistry; policies and guidelines.
  • Clinical Aspects include: introduction to oral anatomy; dental operatory; dental equipment, introduction to tooth structure; primary and permanent teeth; the oral cavity and related structures; proper patient positioning; dental hand-pieces; sterilization; and other areas.
In addition to entry-level administrative jobs, this course is ideal for students interested in pursuing a future formal Dental Hygienist program. Student loans are available.
 
*Upon successful completion of this program, students may be eligible to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) - 1) National Entry Level Dental Assistant (NELDA) Exam, 2) Anatomy, Morphology and Physiology (AMP) Exam, 3) Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) Exam, 4) Infection Control Exam (ICE) and the 5) RHS - ICE Exam. Please note that the NELDA Exam is a single exam that includes the AMP Exam, RHS Exam and ICE.  You may also take the AMP Exam, RHS Exam and ICE individually to earn your NELDA.  And you may also take the RHS - ICE Exam that includes both the RHS Exam and ICE.

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) INSTRUCTOR
Becoming an American Heart Association instructor is easy after consulting with an American Heart Association Training Center to find out whether the Training Center (TC) is accepting new instructors and the TCC's (Training Center Coordinator) preferred course delivery. The steps are simple – get started today!
  1. Be accepted by your local AHA Training Center before enrolling in an Instructor Course and have a completed Instructor Candidate Application on file with that Training Center
  2. Have current AHA provider status in the discipline for that Instructor Course and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline. Disciplines include ACLS, BLS, PALS, PEARS and Heartsaver.
  3. Successfully complete the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course.
  4. Successfully be monitored teaching your first course within six months of completing the discipline-specific classroom Instructor Course. Training Center Coordinators can require additional monitoring.
Once you become an Instructor, you will have access to the most current emergency cardiovascular care science, course updates, training resources and tools through the online AHA Instructor Network. You will also be able to post class dates and times to reach more students through our public website.

This course teaches skills with the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills.

Heartsaver® First Aid teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services arrives. Students learn duties and responsibilities of first aid rescuers; first aid actions for medical emergencies, including severe choking, heart attack, and stroke; and skills for handling injury and environmental emergencies, including external bleeding, broken bones and sprains, and bites and stings.

This course is designed to prepare students to provide first aid, CPR and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). The hands-on skills practice and testing session (sold separately) are conducted in-person with a CPTC AHA BLS or Heartsaver Instructor. Upon successful completion of the online course, a hands-on portion must be scheduled and completed. Please plan for this to last about one hour and bring a copy of your certificate of completion of the online course.  Upon successful completion of both then online and hands-on portions of the course, students receive a Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course completion card, valid for two years.
