Coastal Pines Technical College Board of Directors Meets at Local Industry Sites

December 5, 2019 04:58 PM

The Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) Local Board of Directors held their December board meeting at Southern Eagle Distributing, LLC in Blackshear, Georgia. Over the last year, the CPTC Local Board has chosen to occasionally forego its normal meetings on campus to get out into the communities that the College serves. The December meeting was held at Southern Eagle Distributing and the Pierce County Sheriff’s office provided lunch.

Brad Foley from Southern Eagle Distributing, welcomed the Board and presented a history of Southern Eagle Distributing and its parent company Southern Crown Partners. Matt Carter, Pierce County Industrial and Building Authority Director, also spoke and presented an update on the variety of industries in Pierce County and how the College’s existing programs strengthen those local industries. Both Foley and Carter also spent time discussing with the Board and College staff thoughts about how the College and industry could better work together.

The first time the CPTC Local Board held its meeting off campus was in March, when the Board met at Gulfstream in Brunswick. In August, the Board met at Okefenoke REMC in Nahunta. Representatives from each of these companies were able to address the board and give a tour of their facility.

“We are meeting at different business and industry sites in our thirteen county service delivery area to learn more about the workforce development needs that exist in each county. Every one of our counties require different programs and this is one of the ways that we can help address future workforce needs in these communities,” states Dr. Glenn Deibert, President of CPTC.

The CPTC Local Board of Directors and the CPTC Leadership team meet monthly to discuss various actions items and happenings at the College. The Local Board of Directors serves in an advisory capacity to assist the College in accomplishing its mission. Coastal Pines Technical College’s Local Board of Directors is composed of members representing the College’s designated thirteen-county service area. The CPTC board members represent a variety of business, industry, and economic development backgrounds, and bring with them a wealth of experience and wisdom. Board members often share community needs with the President and administration; and as a result, CPTC considers its local Board of Directors a vital asset in the quest to fulfill the mission of the college.
