Each week of the 2019 high school football season, 912 Sports will name a Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week. The week two award winner is Clinch County Junior, Tyler Morehead. Morehead is the quarterback- defensive back for the Clinch County Panthers.
Clinch County’s opponent this past Friday night was Brooks County which uses “Bring That Hammer” as a team rallying cry. And usually, the Trojans do pound the majority of their opponents and thus also pound out wins most weeks with their physical approach to the game.
But last week, the Panthers brought their own hammer to the fray with the Class AA power in Quitman. His name is Tyler Morehead, and the junior star player for the Panthers is the one who did the pounding as Clinch won the battle 38-14 with Morehead leading the way.
Morehead, who plays quarterback and defensive back for the two-time defending Class A Public state champions, rushed for 252 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries. He also was 1-for-6 passing for 21 yards.
And on defense, Morehead recovered a fumble and also intercepted a pass as the Panthers held Brooks scoreless over the final two quarters and outscored the home squad 18-0 after halftime with all three of their scores coming on runs by Morehead in the fourth quarter.
For his big game, Morehead has been named the Coastal Pines Technical College Player of the Week in the 912 Sports coverage area.
“Tyler is a tremendous player,” said Clinch head coach Don Tison. “He’s a very unselfish kid who just loves playing the game. He’s a great teammate and leader.”
Morehead, who is 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, is listed as a four-star prospect as a safety by 247 Sports. He is receiving interest from several major colleges including Florida State, Tennessee and Kentucky.
