Brantley Sloan, a recent Charlton County High School graduate, found success through the Dual Enrollment program at Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC). During his sophomore year of high school, Sloan heard about the Dual Enrollment program from his high school counselor and quickly understood how it could benefit him. Eryn Parsons, Recruiter and High School Coordinator for CPTC was integral in helping Sloan sign up for classes through Coastal Pines. Parsons works hand in hand with the high school counselors on site at Charlton County High School to determine what courses are needed for every semester, and to help get students through the CPTC admissions process and in classes.
Sloan started by taking college core transfer courses at his high school during his sophomore and junior years. By his senior year, he had chosen to begin the Marketing Management program through Coastal Pines. Upon graduation from high school, Sloan chose to continue his education at Coastal Pines Technical College by transitioning from a dual enrollment student to a traditional student. He is currently enrolled in the Marketing Management online program through Coastal Pines Technical College and plans to enter the workforce soon after graduation.
“I chose to begin taking Dual Enrollment classes because it was a huge cost saver for my parents. It also taught me how to learn time management since I was taking high school classes, college classes, and participating in sports at my school. Dual enrollment also allowed me to have a smooth transition to becoming a full time college student because I already knew the structure of the college classes,” stated Sloan.
Georgia’s Dual Enrollment program allows qualified high school students to maximize their education and career training by taking courses that earn college and high school credit at the same time. Under Dual Enrollment, students may take academic core courses that will transfer to other public and private colleges and universities in Georgia. These courses may also transfer to out-of-state colleges and universities. Students may also take occupational and career courses that can help jump start a career. There is no cost to high school students or their parents for Dual Enrollment courses.
