Cason and Williams Awarded Waycross Rotary Scholarships

Two Okefenokee Technical College students, Simon Cason and Lindsay Williams, were recognized at a recent Waycross Rotary Club meeting as the 2013 OTC Rotary Scholarship recipients. Ed Avra, the Waycross Rotary scholarship committee director (left) presented the award to Cason at a recent weekly meeting of the club. Lindsay Williams, also selected for the award, was not able to attend.

Students are selected for the award based on the following criteria: academic achievement, work ethic, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Congratulations to both students.

Cason is a computer information technology student in the networking specialist degree program and is very active in OTC’s student organizations. He currently serves as the Phi Beta Lambda vice president and placed 1st in a recent Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) state competition. He then went on to compete at the national level and placed 7th and 9th in PBL’s national competition. He is also a member of the Horticulture Club.

After earning his AAS degree in networking specialist, Simon plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree. He has a passion for computers and does volunteer work, when his schedule permits, in the OTC information technology (IT) department.

Williams, a native of Folkston, is a licensed practical nursing student at OTC. She is an active member in her community by volunteering with back-to-school activities and the Wounded Warrior Project. She has a passion for helping others which is why she chose the nursing field.

Lindsay plans to further her education by obtaining her bachelor’s degree, becoming a registered nurse and eventually a nurse practitioner.
