Allie Smith (see photo on right) of Manor was recently selected as the 2015 Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) Brooksie A. Pike Scholarship recipient. CPTC cosmetology instructor Aleshia Sumpter (Alma campus) and Okefenokee Technical College Foundation Director Cindy Tanner presented Smith with an award check and congratulated her for outstanding performance and success.
Ms. Smith attended the Alma campus cosmetology program and was recommended for the scholarship by Sumpter, who described her as “an amazing student with a great work ethic.” Sumpter continued by stating, “Allie always works hard and puts forth a tremendous effort in learning her chosen profession.”
After receiving her cosmetology license, Ms. Smith plans to work toward owning her own salon. “I am very excited about starting this new chapter in my career and hope I can become successful in this field,” Smith wrote on her application.
The Brooksie A. Pike Scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. John Pike and other family members to pay tribute to Mrs. Brooksie A. Pike, Dr. Pike’s mother, who had a forty-year career in cosmetology. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be full-time cosmetology students entering their final semester at Coastal Pines Technical College with a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average and excellent work ethic grades.
OTC Foundation trustees and CPTC President Dr. Glenn Deibert congratulate Allie Smith and thank the Pike family for establishing the scholarship fund. Allie also thanked Tanner, Sumpter, and the Pike family for the scholarship.
