State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia
Okefenokee Technical College’s Board of Directors is composed of sevenmembers representing the college’s designated six-county service area. At least one member from each county is represented on the Board.
The OTC board members represent a variety of business, industry, and economic development backgrounds and bring with them a wealth of experience and wisdom. Board members often communicate community needs to the President and administration; and as a result, OTC considers its local Board of Directors a vital asset in the quest to fulfill the mission of the college. The local Board meets monthly, and the actions of the Board are recorded in the official minutes of each board meeting.

The State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia is responsible for establishing standards, regulations, and policies for the operation of the Technical College System of Georgia, the state's 25 technical colleges, technical college economic development programs, and adult literacy education programs. The Board strives to promote the economic well-being of Georgia citizens by ensuring high-quality training, providing upgrade training, and offering services as a full partner in the expansion of Georgia's economic base. The Board executes its responsibilities in two primary ways:
-
By adopting policies to provide general guidelines for governing the system, and
-
By appointing a Commissioner, who is given the responsibility and authority for the administration of the system in accordance with the adopted policies and who is the chief executive officer of the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia.
While the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia is the governing board of Okefenokee Technical College, a local board of directors operates in concert with the State Board to accomplish institutional goals. The State Board delegates to the local boards the authority to develop local policies and procedures to meet the needs of the college’s service area.
