A Dual Enrollment Shining Star – Chase Carter!

Chase Carter (picture left) recently accomplished a monumental feat; he graduated from both high school and college in the same week! Along with more than 1,700 other high school students enrolled during spring semester, Chase participated in the opportunity to earn free college credit through the Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) Dual Enrollment program while also completing his high school education.
Early in his high school career, Chase fell in love with welding under the direction of Ware County High School Welding Teacher, Johnny Beard. During that same time, Chase’s mother, Alicia Carter, learned about dual enrollment from High School Coordinator Eryn Parsons. Chase decided to try dual enrollment but only planned to take college core classes. However, after discussions with Ms. Parsons, he learned that he could also advance his welding skills through dual enrollment. Ms. Parsons provided him with answers and guidance, showing him how to maximize the opportunities and propel him to complete his program. Chase graduated with his WCHS Diploma on May 25 and his CPTC Welding and Joining Technology Certificate on May 31.
“My experience with CPTC and Dual Enrollment has given me a competitive advantage over other kids my age,” says Chase. “The support of my family, Mr. Beard and CPTC has given me the experience, discipline, work ethics and skills that I plan to take into the workforce immediately.” He is currently considering various welding career positions and feels confident he is prepared for a bright future in the welding industry.
Chase’s advice to other students is that they should definitely consider dual enrollment and he specifically recommends core and technical classes. Chase stated, “You can’t go wrong with Coastal Pines Technical College!”
