Waycross, GA - Coastal Pines Technical College (CPTC) automotive instructor Larry Carr (left) is pleased to announce that Felix Lara, a senior automotive technology student, is Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified in the following service areas: Maintenance and Light Repair Technician, Automobile Technician - Suspension and Steering, Automobile Technician - Brakes, and Automobile Technician - Heating and Air Conditioning.

Lara successfully passed the examinations and met the work experience requirement prescribed by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence to earn the awards. According to Carr, ASE certification is used by many employers in the automotive field as a way to gauge a technician’s level of expertise. Mr. Carr also noted that the exams are not easy. In fact, only two of every three test takers pass on their first attempt.
In order to become a Master Certified ASE Technician, applicants must pass tests 1 through 8 of the Automobile Technician test series. Lara, who works at Rod’s Car and Truck Accessories and has earned a spot on CPTC’s President’s List three out of four semesters, has taken and passed three of the eight examinations and plans to take the other five exams soon. Lara would like to thank Mr. Carr and Rod Smith, owner of Rod’s Car and Truck Accessories, for their support.
