2018 GOAL and Rick Perkins Award Winners Announced at CPTC

January 22, 2018 09:25 AM

The 2018 GOAL Student and the 2018 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year were recently announced at a reception on the Jesup Campus of Coastal Pines Technical College.

Tayler Hutto (pictured below left), a resident of Bacon County, was announced as the 2018 Coastal Pines Technical College GOAL (Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership) student. Tayler is a student in the Radiologic Technology Program on the Waycross Campus.

Pam Johnson (pictured below right), of Clinch County, was named the 2018 Rick Perkins Instructor of the Year. Johnson is the Clinical Coordinator for the Radiologic Technology Program on the Waycross Campus.

Both Hutto and Johnson will advance to the Regional Competition in Tifton in mid February and then to the State Competition in April for the State Titles.

Each year, selection for the GOAL and Rick Perkins Award begins with the naming of the top technical education student and instructor at each college. Regional competitions follow and narrow the field to nine finalists for each award. In April, the nine finalists are interviewed in Atlanta by a panel of judges. At each step, student finalists are scored on their academic accomplishments, leadership qualities, involvement in their local communities and future aspirations. Benchmarks for instructors include teaching experience, innovation in the classroom, leadership and civic involvement.

The GOAL program, now in its 47th year, recognizes the most outstanding technical education students at each of the 22 TCSG colleges.  The Rick Perkins Award, now in its 28th year, highlights excellence in technical instruction.
