National Technical Honor Society inducts 35 Altamaha Technical College students

(December 3, 2012) – Thirty-five Altamaha Technical College students were inducted into the National Technical Honor Society during a special ceremony at the Jesup Campus Dec. 4.

“The goal of the society is to see that deserving technical students will be recognized and that people of the community become aware of the talents and abilities of the young people and adults who choose technical education pathways to a successful future,” said NTHS Advisor Chad Swanson, who coordinated the ceremony.

The NTHS was created in 1984 and its official slogan is: “Excellence in America’s Workforce Begins with Excellence in Workforce Education.”

Altamaha Technical College President Lorette M. Hoover welcomed the attendees to the ceremony and Willie Milner, an electronics student, gave the invocation. Karla Eubanks, Vice President for Student Affairs, presented the NTHS background and David McDuffie, a machine tool technology student and NTHS State Parliamentarian, presented a “Life of a State Officer” to the interest of students, friends and families.

Following a candlelight program and induction of new members by Swanson, the NTHS pledge was sworn by all members. Dr. Al Cunningham, Vice President of Academic Affairs, made the pronouncement of membership, and Miller closed the ceremony with the benediction.

“We congratulate all of our 2012 NTHS inductees,” said President Hoover. “In order to become a member, one must exemplify success in scholarship, honesty, responsibility, leadership, skill and service to the community. We are proud of each of these students and they represent Altamaha Technical College well.”
